The date was August 1st 2005. Three years back, I had visited Chennai for the first time for XIIth Engineering Entrance. Now it's for Chartered Accountancy Course’s Articleship (practical training under the guidance of an Auditor).
Practically, this practical training was my first job. My idea about work before this was playing Solitaire/Hearts & Auditing at the same time (Alt + Tab), but the games were blocked in my first client’s office (Murphy’s Law).
Hoped for a better client office next time, but what I got was only files and papers. No desktops. The first client was far better. Finally as a junior, I was shuttled from one client to other till Diwali 2005. 5 clients in 3 months… I have learned nothing but Gel Tick with a pink Reynolds ball point pen.
The TWIST:
Finally Diwali over and I AM BACK to office and getting ready for gel ticking. We Apparasanties (Apprentices) were busy about discussing the movies released. Suddenly Audit Manager came there and interrupted our serious discussion. She told Mahesh to go for assisting the audit of our biggest client for Interim Audit and after some serious thinking she asked Barath & Myself to join with him.
The Gel ticking went on for few days. I have done it alone for the associate Company and they have done the same for Parent Company under the supervision of a Chartered Accountant.
The new senior Nafiz joins the party to supervise me & to spoil my picnic mood. He asked so many questions about Vouching. With my gel ticking knowledge I am incapable of answer his questions and thought “Why this guy came here???” (without knowing that guy is going to show the way for my new passion “Stocks”).
Nafiz used my favourite keys Alt+Tab (not Solitaire /Hearts, its moneycontrol.com /nseindia.com). Out of our curiosity to understand the game of games “Stock Market”, we apparasanties asked him “What’s that?”. He briefed us about his day trading activities. To add fuel to our fire, our bigger client has proposed for an Initial Public Offer (IPO) to list in the Stock Exchanges. It was the tipping point for us to open a brokerage account. Mahesh opened separately and Barath &I opened a single account in Barath’s name with Nafiz's broker in December 2005.
So, finally I entered the laboratory without knowing what it is meant for & for whom it is destined…
